Mom’s Immigrant Abuse #lorijeanfinnila #sexualabuse #westfordma #immigrants

My mother was told while I was tied to our cellar stairs as a toddler that it would be good for her to spend time with, a cop and his friend by them in our small town of Westford, MA in the 60’s. She was an illiterate Portuguese woman with a 4th grade education and with only a green card and sexually abused at 14 in Portugal by her uncle being tied to a chair. Imagine.

Beginning To Feel the Flow Again #lorijeanfinnila #hope #healingjourney #selfphysicaltherapy

You know abuse might have taken away my hands to write long, my body to move as gracefully in my dance, my mind slow to remember at times, but my body is beginning to feel the flow again: there is hope.

Being an abuse victim I had to find a way to heal on my own.

This is a book of poetry through domestic violence that shows the difference in meaning as it entwines all abuse. It brings on a new meaning of domestic violence as it has been portrayed in the past and portrayed at all. It brings in new forms of crime used as retaliation to a women making choices on her own and for innocent children that are dragged into it.

Homeless Theme Flowers in the Dark #flowersinthedark #thegreatestgiftofall #lorijeanfinnila #womenauthor #literature

I just got inspired taking photos in the park to make this a homeless theme. I found a poem I wrote not long ago to add to this seem. Another poetry book? Hmm....

The Greatest Gift of All

I was given the greatest gift of all
I don't smug appearance
Or feel crude or disgust in my mind
When I see a wandering homeless
I was just given the greatest gift of all

Thank you Lord
For taking away my sins
For judging those
Who have less than us
I was just given the greatest gift of all

I can see a human
so great inside
And not fear
with judgment from my soul
I was just given the greatest gift of all

He can walk by me
Sit and eat with me
Live and sleep in my streets
I was just given the greatest gift of all
